Rotary Philosophy
THE OBJECT OF ROTARY IS
 
To encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and in particular to encourage and foster:
 
1. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
 
2.  High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying by each Rotarian of his or her occupation as an opportunity to serrve society;
 
3.  The application of the ideal of service by every Rotarian to his or her personal business and community life;
 
4.  The advanc3ement of international understanding, good will and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Each year, at our Annual Christmas Dinner, our club is proud to provide recognition of a member who, over long service to the club, exemplifies these four principles.
 
Mission Statement
 
The Carlisle Rotary Club provides opportunities for service to the community and the world through a forum that fosters fellowship and fun.
 
Vision Statement
 
Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change - across the globe, in ouor communities and in ourselves.  Using this vision statement and the RI President's theme "Rotary Opens Opportunities," District 7390 proposes to activate and strengthen Rotary International's new strategi c  priorities and annual goals by establishing the following District goals and objectives to be implemented during the Rotary year 2020-2021:

  • Increase oour Ability to Adapt
 
Expectations of New and All Active Members
 
New Members are issued a red name badge upon joining the Club.  In order to change this to a blue name badge, new members must do four of the following five tasks (within the first six months in the Club):
 
  • Read and understand the Club's constitution and bylaws (mandatory)
  • Give a classification talk on your work field and background (mandatory)
  • Attend a monthly Board meeting
  • Serve as a lunch meeting greeter at least once
  • Refer a new member or bring a guest to lunch
 
Expectations of All Members
 
  • Pay Club dues promptly when billed.
  • Sign up for and participate on at least one committee of the Club.
  • Participate in/help with/support special projects of the Club.
(e.g. flower watering, Christmas in July, park cleanup, Christmas Dinner and Auction, etc.)
  • Make an annual tax deductible contribution to the Rotary Foundation. The Club fiscal year is July 1 through the following June 30. A suggested minimum contribution is $25, although higher amounts are encouraged,
            while lesser amounts are acceptable. Those indiiduals who contribute       $100 or more in a year to the Rotary Foundation are noted in the Club            Directory as Sustaining Members.
  • Regularly log onto https://www.carlislerotary.org to determine if any duty(greeter, invocation, etc.) has been assigned for the month and identify a replacement if unable to perform that duty.
  • Notify the club secretary of any changes (job, address, phone number, etc.) to your information.
  • In Rotary meetings and events, including when giving and invocation, adhere to Rotary's principles of tolerance and respect for different religious beliefs and values.
  • At Club meetings, be attentive to guest speakers and refrain from holding side conversations while others are speaking. This includes the use of cell phones during meeting presentations.
  • At all times, respect the opinions of fellow Rotarians and be supportive of refrain from being disrespectful of fellow Rotarians and Rotary activities.
 
Rotarian Code of Conduct
 
As a Rotarian, I will:
  1. Act with integrity and high ethical standards in my personal and professional life.
  2. Deal fairly with others and treat them and their occupations with respect.
  3. Use my professional skills through Rotary to: mentor young people, help those with special needs, and improve people's quality of life in my community and aroound the world.
  4. Avoid behavior that reflects adversely on Rotary and other Rotarians.
 
Club Goals for July 2020 to June 2021
 
  • Strengthen the Club during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Hold a successful 100 year club anniversary event
  • Establish lane chairs on the board of directors to better organize and delegate initiatives
  • Net addition of 2 Members to the Club in 2020-2021
  • 100% of Club Membership make a contribution to the Rotary Foundation in 2017-2020 (EREY)
  • 80%of Club membership make a contribution of $100 or more to the Rotary Foundation in 2019-2020 (Sustaining Member)
  • 4 members to attend Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) at Central Penn College
  • Complete 1 service project each quarter
  • Increase participation in District/Rotary International Events
  • Host 1 Membership Happy Hour each month (COVID-19rules dependent)
  • Continue to increase use of and further integrate Club Runner into the administration and operation of the Club
  • Continue the downtown flower beautification on the square plus one block in each direction in partnership with the G.B. Stuart Foundation
  • Continue our fundraiser and make them grow: Golf Tournament in September and the Holiday Dinner and auction to benefit our community
  • Continue our Christmas in July where we hand out bags full of cleaning supplies, personal items and pens and pencils for One and Two West Penn which is lower income housing in Carlisle and provide games and healthy snacks
  • Be open to partner with other non-profits in our community needing help meeting some of their goals
  • continue to finalize our Global Grant with Kenya
 
 
Rotary’s Five Lanes of Service
 
  1. Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring effective functioning of the club.
  2. Vocational Service encourages Rotarians to serve others through their vocations and to practice high ethical standards.
  3. Community Service includes the projects and activities the club undertakes to improve life in the community.
  4. International Service encompasses actions taken to expand Rotary's humanitarian reach around the globe and to promote world understanding, goodwill, and peace.
  5. Youth Service recognizes the positive change implemented by youth and young adults through leadership development activities, involvement in community and international service projects, and exchange programs that enrich and foster world peace and cultural understanding.

Club Service 
  • Schedule speakers to attract new members, strengthen attendance, and inform members
  • Participate in Rotary District 7390 events, training, and conferences
  • Maintain website and social media, keeping members and others informed
  • Pursue a public relations campaign to brand and promote the Club locally
  • Recognize Club Paul Harris Fellows annually
  • Recognize spousal support by holding annual Valentine’s Day Luncheon
Vocational Service
  • Organize a vocational awareness committee
  • Facilitate the Juan Garcia-Tuñon Memorial Award for Vocational Students
  • Support and engage members in Rotary Means Business events
Community Service
  • Provide over $15,000 in charitable giving to local organizations and causes

  • An Effective Education:
Conduct reading program for local elementary schools
Sponsor high school students to attend Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA)
Recognize high school seniors with “Student of the Month” award
Recognize outstanding senior student in three local high schools with scholarship
Nominate outstanding local teachers for Rotary Teacher Impact Awards (WGAL TV)
  • Opportunities to Help Others:
Organize and support Interact Clubs for high school students
Organize and recruit students for the Rotary District Four Way Speech Contest
Organize and arrange students for the Rotary International youth exchange
International Service
Provide financial support to eradicate polio
Support dental clinic and water project in Kilimambogo, Kenya, Africa
Host foreign exchange students in cooperation with the Sunrise Club
Prepare to host a student for the 2021-2022 school year when the Foreign Exchange program returns post COVID-19.
