Dear Rotarians;

Welcome to another Rotary year.  I hope that everyone had an enjoyable and productive summer and is ready to get back to serving the community.  In July, Jill Lazar from Hoffman Funeral Home joined the Club and George Adams from Sadler Health Center took a position in another state.  In August, David Maaskant from Smith, Elliott, Kearns & Co. joined the Club as a transfer from another Club.  The Club currently has 95 active members and 20 honorary members.

There are a number of Rotary activities coming up that you are encouraged to attend depending on your interests.  First up, the Club is hosting a Rotary Means Business (RMB) event on the evening of September 13th at the Orrstown Bank Walnut Bottom branch.  Thank you to Kristin Ramsay for providing her branch for the event.  RMB was started in the District by Past District Governor Alden Cunningham.  I encourage Club members to attend this event with a guest to show pride in our Club to other clubs in the region and to meet prospective new members.  There is a charge to attend the event to cover the cost, so you need to register in advance on the Rotary District 7390 web site.

The Rotary District is holding a membership seminar on the evening of September 15th and a grant training seminar on the evening of September 20th.  Both seminars are being held at the Radisson Hotel in Camp Hill.  If you are interested in attending, let Justin Doty, Mike Cross, or me know.  The Club will pay for the registration fee.

The Mechanicsburg North Rotary Club is having a Beer & Wine Festival on Saturday, September 24th at Central Penn College.  A flyer for the event will be placed on the Club’s web site.

The Club’s annual Golf Tournament, is scheduled for Monday, September 26th at the Carlisle Country Club starting at 12:00 noon.  This is the Club’s largest fund raiser for the year and all golfers and non golfers alike are encouraged to attend.  I want to give a shout out to M&T Bank and Peter Ostrowski for being a dinner sponsor for the tournament.  A registration form for the tournament can be found on the Club’s web site.

The United Way Day of Caring is scheduled for Friday, October 14th from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.  More information on the day will be forthcoming.

Coming up on November 19th at Central Penn College is the Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) for 2016.  I encourage all Club members, especially new members, to attend RLI to learn more about the Rotary experience and to meet fellow Rotarians in the District.  The Club will pay the registration cost for all members that sign up for the Part I or Part II sessions of RLI.

The Club’s holiday dinner is scheduled for December 9th at the Comfort Suites.  Along with enjoying holiday cheer, the dinner serves as a fundraiser for the Kenya dental clinic and water projects of the Club.  I want to recognize Bill Blankmeyer and the members of the holiday dinner committee for the planning and preparation.  Please place this date on your calendar and plan to attend.  It will be an enjoyable evening and an opportunity to socialize with your fellow Rotarians and significant others.

Lastly, I want to update you on the Club’s meeting location.  On August 17th, the Elks Lodge notified the Club of a price increase for the lunch of over 100% effective September 18th.  I have formed a Meeting Location and Food Committee and appointed seven members to serve.  The Committee is soliciting proposals from other potential meetings locations and has submitted a counter proposal to the Elks Lodge.  The Committee will review proposals received and discuss options with the Board of Directors on September 8th.  The general desire is to stay at the Elks Club, but it may not be possible.  The recommendation of the Board will be presented to the membership at the meeting of September 8th and/or 15th for consideration.  Please plan to attend these meetings if you are able, so you can be informed and participate in the process.

I am looking forward to the fall weather.

Thank you for being a Rotarian.
