The Carlisle Rotary Club kicked off another great year of programs with our club assembly on January 4th. We welcomed Kevin Wagner, to talk about National History Day, and Michele Holloway to talk about all the exciting things going on at the YMCA. All of our brag money will support the YMCA in January (center photo). We also welcomed another new member to the club: Michelle Palmer-Fenton. Michelle is pictured below on the right with her sponsor, Stephanie Douglas. Finally, Rotarian Yvette Davis, of the Popel Shaw Center at Dickinson College, welcomed the club to the Stern Center for a presentation by Jim Gerencser on the Carlisle Indian School (picture on the left). You won't want to miss Bubbler Day this week including the Student of the Month - Richie Feliciano.
What's happening in Carlisle Rotary January Edition
Service:
• Thank you to everyone who participated in our Bell Ringing for Salvation Army. Over 30 Rotarians participated. In addition to the money collected, our club members donated over $2,600 themselves. A special thanks to Hubert Gilroy for setting up the project.
• January brags will support - Carlisle YMCA
• January - Rotarians will assist in installing flooring for Tomorrow's Neighbors. The club purchased the flooring as part of our District Grant.
• 22 Jan - Rotarian David Hiebert delivered 50 dictionaries to St. Joseph School in Mechanicsburg.
• 25 January we are collecting glossy magazines to support the Ronald McDonald House. Thank you to Dan Monken for organizing this event again.
Programs (Thu 12pm at the Comfort Suites):
• 18 Jan - We had another good turnout for our club social at Market Cross Pub. Come join us in February for fun and fellowship. Thank you, President Elect Travis.
• 25 Jan - Bubbler Day - Dr. Kevin O'Donnell, Superintendent of South Middleton School District and Boiling Springs High School Student of the month (see below).
• 1 Feb - Diversity, Equity, Inclusion at the State level - Doreen Wilbur
• 8 Feb - Health Equity - Dr. Marcellus Taylor; we will also sign Valentine cards for some of our senior living communities.
• 15 Feb - Big Spring Student of the month
• 22 Feb - Mt. Tabor Church Restoration - Carmen James
Special Thanks to:
• Treasurer, Kevin Benton, as we wired over $26,000 to Togo, West Africa in support of our water and sanitation project. Kudos to Mike Zick and Kevin Cogan (Carlisle Sunrise) for making this happen.
The Carlisle Rotary Club again helped to sponsor the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Commemoration in Carlisle.
Carlisle Rotary again supported the Salvation Army in December.
