Dear Rotarians;

Welcome to Fall.  The hot months of summer are behind us and the nights are turning cool.  In September, Dwayne Parrish from the U.S. Army War College joined the Club.  The Club now has 96 active members and 20 honorary members.

As of September 22nd, the Club changed its meeting location from the Elks Lodge to the Comfort Suites off of the Square.  For the last 40 years, the Club met mostly at the Elks Lodge, so it is a big change.  We are off to a great start at the Comfort Suites.  Thank you to Griff Hamilton, Ed Enterline, and Bob Hollen for making the transition to the Comfort Suites a smooth transition.

On September 13th, the Club hosted a Rotary Means Business event at the Orrstown Bank Walnut Bottom Branch.  Ten Club members attended the event and it was a successful evening for business networking.  Thank you to Kristin Ramsay and Orrstown Bank for providing the venue and being a sponsor of the event.  Thank you to Chris Hoffman and Jill Lazar from Hoffman Funeral Home; and Justin Doty from Frederick, Seibert and Associates for sponsoring the event as well.  Thank you to Past District Governor Alden Cunningham for organizing the event.

The Rotary District held a membership seminar on September 15th and a grant training seminar on September 20th.  Three members represented the Club at each seminar.  Thank you to Justin Doty for chairing the Membership Committee, and Mike Cross and Kathleen Stoup for helping to keep us organized with District and International grants.

The Club held another successful Golf Tournament fundraiser on September 26th at the Carlisle Country Club.  Falling just one stroke short, Jim DeGaetano’s team placed second.  Thank you to M&T Bank and Peter Ostrowski for being a sponsor of the event.

Erik Praestgaard, a senior at Carlisle High School was the student of the month.

The United Way Day of Caring is scheduled for Friday, October 14th from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.  Please sign up and plan to participate.

Coming up on November 19th at Central Penn College is the Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) for 2016.  I encourage all Club members, especially new members, to attend RLI to learn more about the Rotary experience and to meet fellow Rotarians in the District.  The Club will pay the registration cost for all members that sign up for the Part I or Part II sessions of RLI.

The Rotary District is holding its annual Rotary Foundation dinner on the evening of November 30th at Central Penn College.  2016 is the 100th anniversary of the Rotary Foundation, so it should be a special evening.

The Club’s holiday dinner is scheduled for December 9th at the Comfort Suites.  Along with enjoying holiday cheer, the dinner serves as a fundraiser for the Kenya dental clinic and water projects of the Club.  I want to recognize Bill Blankmeyer and the members of the holiday dinner committee for the planning and preparation.  Please place this date on your calendar and plan to attend.  It will be an enjoyable evening and an opportunity to socialize with your fellow Rotarians and significant others.

Thank you for being a Rotarian.
