Dear Rotarians;

December is here and the year-end holiday season is just around the corner.  The annual holiday dinner and auction was held at the Comfort Suites Hotel on Friday, December 9th.  At the dinner, Bill Harkey was recognized as the recipient of the Four-Way Test Award for 2016.  A well deserved congratulations to Bill.  With sponsorships, live and silent auction proceeds, brags, and matching pledges; over $34,000 was raised to support the efforts of the Kenya Dental Clinic and Water project.  Congratulations to Cindy Gleim-Pool, Bill Blankmeyer, Marv Salsman of the Sunrise Club, Kathleen Stoup, and all the members of the Dinner Committee for making it a fantastic event.  You have set the bar high for future years.

At its November meeting, the Board approved Matthew Baker to join the Club as a transfer from Chambersburg.  Mindy Loftus from Orrstown Bank will be re-joining the Club effective January 1, 2017.  The Board approved for Bill Seely to transition from active membership to honorary status effective November 10, 2016 and Gary Sausser to transition effective January 1, 2017.  Thank you to Bill and Gary for your years of service to the Club. With these changes, the Club will have 95 active members and 23 honorary members.

The Rotary Leadership Institute held a training session on November 19th at Central Penn College.  Mary Brunski, Peter Ostrowski, Dwayne Parrish, Kathleen Stoup, Dean Glick, Alden Cunningham and Shawn Farr participated in various courses.  A dinner celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Rotary Foundation was held on November 30th at Central Penn College.  Paul Burkhart and his wife Barbara, Alden Cunningham and his wife Carol, Bill Blankmeyer, Bill Harkey, Joel Hillison, Kathleen Stoup, and Shawn Farr represented the Club at this event.

In November, Bailey Jones, a senior at Big Spring High School, was recognized as the student of the month.  The Club presented Dorothy Lappen with a Paul Harris Fellow pin in recognition of her support of the Kenya project over the years.  The Club will meet on December 15th and then break for the holidays.  The next Club meeting will be in the new year on January 5, 2017.

Happy holidays to all and thank you for being a Rotarian.

Shawn
